Michael Crichton, the well known writer, died of cancer a few days ago.  Several of his books such as The Andromeda Strain and Jurassic Park not only sold well but went on to become major movies as well.

I have not read any of his books and seen only a few of the movies based on them but for some time I have been reading his non-fiction writings on his website and have found a great deal of sense in them.

Here is a speech he gave at the National Press Club in Washington D.C.  It is as relevant today as it was when he gave it a few years ago:

We Will Survive

Comes the news that human artifacts are being recoved from melting glaciers.

Means at some point in the past, temperatures were as high as they are now.  For obvious reasons, they cannot have been high because of human activity.

And from that we can further reason that:

  1. Perhaps the current increase in temperatures also have natural causes like climate cycles.
  2. Humans once faced temperatures higher, it is argued, than they were a few centuries ago, and survived.

The moral of the story is – The Earth is Fine.  Save Yourself.
